  • In 1506, The first contingent of Swiss Guards arrives at the Vatican.
  • In 1889, Columbia Phonograph (now Columbia Records) was formed.
  • In 1905, Bloody Sunday in St. Petersburg, Russia at the start of the failed 1905 revolution.
  • In 1946, The Central Intelligence Group (now the Central Intelligence Agency) was formed in the U.S.
  • In 1973, The U.S. Supreme Court delivers its decision in the landmark case, Roe v. Wade.
  • In 1984, The Apple Macintosh, the first consumer PC to popularize the mouse and the Graphical User Interface is introduced (the commercial is below).
  • In 1987, Pennsylvania politician Budd Dwyer committed suicide in front of a live, televised press conference by shooting himself in the mouth.
  • In 1992, Dr. Roberta Bondar becomes the first Canadian woman to in space.
  • In 2006, Evo Morales is elected the first indigenous President of Bolivia.
  • In 2007, Kobe Bryant scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, the second highest point total for one game in NBA history.

    I love being reminded of just how different the world was even one generation ago. I was born in ‘84 and right now I am the same age as my mother was that year when she was first introduced to the home PC. It so hard imaging a world without this great technology!
