Map of Arizona

  • Arizona was the last of the contiguous states (lower 48) to join the Union.
  • The Grand Canyon is 1 of the 7 wonders of the natural world.
  • The original London Bridge (you know, from the song) was shipped stone by stone and rebuilt in Lake Havasu City.
  • Arizona has the largest percentage of land set aside for Indian reservations.
  • In March of 2ooo, Arizona residents were able to vote in the Democratic presidential primary over the Internet. It was the first time in the United States that a legally binding nomination for public office took place. Al Gore defeated Bill Bradley; maybe Al Gore is the father of the Internet!
  • Arizona has had more female governors than any other state, with four.
  • The Arizona state flag was designed by Colonel Charles Harris of the Arizona National Guard in 1910. The flag was originally designed for the rifle team, which had been the only team that was not represented by a flag. The flag was eventually adopted by the state legislature in 1917.
