I made a conscious decision to disconnect this past weekend because it was my high school reunion, so I didn’t have a chance to ask this when I first heard, but do you think Barack Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize? Feel free to expound on your answer in the comments, and expect a commentary later today.

If Al Gore can win one and not even be a scientist. Just the man with money and a movie. Then so can the man who became the first black President, that has inspired the world with change. Well that can be debated, but this is my opinion. Plus, anyone coming in after the mess that George W. Bush made, should get one.
Adam, I think you are trivializing the situation just a bit. An award as high in stature as the Nobel Prize should bot be given out on the grounds that the person is not someone else. Regardless of how foolish that someone else (Bush) may have been.
And regarding your point about Al Gore not being a scientist, the Nobel Prize is awarded for different categories: Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, Literature and Peace. Clearly not all of those require a scientific background. Al Gore happened to win the Nobel Prize for Peace.
Finally, President Obama's Nobel nomination was submitted a mere two weeks after being sworn into office as the deadline for all nominations is due in February. That to me is what really makes a mockery out of this whole thing. The Nobel Prize has never been about recognition for what you are going to do, or trying to do, it is about what you have already done.
The peace prize has often been used as an instrument of politics, therefore sullying its own purpose. I would love to expound, but I'm working on an actual blog post about this subject as we speak ^_^

Looking forward to it for sure. I would wager a guess that Obama's winning is no doubt an attempt to sway his decision regarding the troop disbursement into Afghanistan.
Thanks for the compliment! Yeah, that's got to be it. I think it's also a slap at our previous president as well. I'm gonna quit now before I give away too much, though.
Man you nailed it right on the head. I think it's outrageous that Obama received this aware. The fact of the matter is, he's spending a tremendous amount of money and hasn't done much to bring money back in. Obama lovers can say what they want now, but in 3 years we will see if he is as great as the media makes him out to be.
Thanks for the comment! The Nobel Peace Prize doesn't always measure results, and often times opts for the effort. For more info, check out this article: http://everythingishistory.com/2009/10/15/the-a...
