Discovered by Chinese farmers in 1974, the world famous terra-cotta were created by Imperial Order from China’s first emperor, Qin Shihuangdi (259-210 B.C.E). Of the 1,000 or so figures that have been unearthed, 15 will be on display through March 31, 2010 in a display that has never before been so up close and personal.

Previously, the closest you could get without being an archeologist was the long view from the top of the pit where they were being unearthed. For the first time ever, visitors to the National Geographic Museum will be able to examine the warriors, a chariot rider, a general, and others from just a few feet away. If you live in the area, this is an exhibit you shouldn’t miss. If you don’t you may want to get tickets anyway.
