10 Classic Books Available on the Amazon Kindle for FREE
By Tamahome Jenkins · December 2, 2009
I know what you’re thinking. “I don’t have an Amazon Kindle, this list is of no use to me!” Nothing could be further from the truth. With Christmas just around the corner, Santa may fill your stocking with Amazon’s “most wished for product”, but even if he doesn’t, there are other options. I don’t have a Kindle either, but I do have an iPod Touch with the Kindle app on it. While the reading experience isn’t on par with that of a real Kindle, it gets the job done, especially considering the number of books that could be had for the price of FREE. If you don’t have one of the aforementioned devices, Amazon also has Kindle software for the PC. The best part about all of these: should you ever get a Kindle device in the future, your purchases, bookmarks, annotations, etc. will sync with the device. Anyway, enough about the Kindle, here are the 10 classic texts that are currently on my iPod Touch. (NOTE: The Amazon Associates program doesn’t allow direct linking to Kindle books, so I’ve linked to the search pages. The free versions of the book should be at the top.)
- Civil Disobedience, by Henry David Thoreau
- The Picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde
- The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin, by Benjamin Franklin
- An Unsocial Socialist, by George Bernard Shaw
- The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
- The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain
- Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen
- A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by William Shakespeare
- Tales of the Jazz Age (includes “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”), by F. Scott Fitzgerald
- A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens
This is by no means an exhaustive list. There are more texts than I can count (mostly because the Kindle Store doesn’t have a “free books” section), and they include classic, public domain books, as well as some current books that have been listed for free. Do you have a Kindle? What classics are on your reading list?

Hi, I came across your site while searching yahoo for Kindle. Your website is really good and I loved the theme. Just thought would let you know that I have bookmarked it. I think your readers may also like this site – Kindle 2. Also on a couple of pages I came across a 404 not found and after refreshing a couple of times was able to view the pages. Take Care
