The 100th Anniversary of “Let Me Call You Sweetheart”
By
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, let’s examine the history of the song, “Let Me Call You Sweetheart.” It was first written in 1910 by Beth Slater Whitson and Leo Friedman, a duo that first teamed up to write “Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland” in 1909. “Let Me Call You Sweetheart” was much more popular, though, with it being one of the bestselling songs in sheet music form of all time. The song is so popular, in fact, that it has been recorded by various artists including Bette Midler, Ethel Merman, Liberace and goodness knows who else. This Valentine’s Day impress your sweetheart by singing her this 100 year old tune, and the rest will be history.

Thanks for the history! My husband is a music buff. I think I will get the sheet music and frame it as a gift for him.
That’s an excellent idea!
